Pakal is a cooperative mixed-reality game inspired by the spirit of ancient discovery. One player wears a VR headset and explores a mystical world in search of colored stones with words engraved on them. The rest of the team, gathered around a screen, sees a sentence with missing parts. As the VR player finds each stone, they share its word and color back to the team, who try to place it in the right slot in the sentence. Once the sentence is complete, it reveals a color pattern the VR player must reconstruct to unlock the altar. It’s a game of cooperation, communication, and shared problem-solving, where success depends on each person contributing their piece of the puzzle.
Pakal not only promotes collaboration but also brings meaningful learning benefits to the classroom. It enhances students’ communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills while strengthening language comprehension and pattern recognition. By blending VR exploration with group-based tasks, Pakal extends the usability of virtual reality beyond individual immersion, transforming it into a shared learning experience where both VR and non-VR players engage equally. The game is content-agnostic and comes with a web-based authoring tool, allowing teachers to easily create or adapt their own challenges, making it suitable for a wide range of subjects and learning contexts.
